What is Trovi.com?
Trovi.com is a browser hijacker promoted as a search engine. However, it possesses some of the features that are typical for browser hijackers. It comes bundled with free software and it does not ask for the user’s permission to alter the browser settings. It is similar to other browser hijackers such as websearching.net, fastbrowsersearch.com, alnaddy.com, vi-view.com, searchbunnie.com and many others. Trovi.com is compatible with all popular browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and others. That means that you will not be able to avoid using it once it gets onto your PC.
If you never wanted for Trovi.com to be installed in the first place and if you wish to improve the safety of your computer and your personal information you should remove Trovi.com as soon as possible.
How does Trovi.com get into the system?
Trovi.com, like many other browser hijackers, usually comes bundled with other freeware. If you download freeware or shareware and install it on your PC it is highly likely that you will also install a browser hijacker or some other type of an unwanted program. The reason that happens is because computer users usually do not pay a lot of attention to the installation process and skip through some of the steps. In some cases it is possible to avoid the unwanted applications by choosing Custom Installation and deselecting the unnecessary programs. That way you will only install what you actually need. In other cases, however, it is impossible to choose that option. Then you should at least check the Terms and Conditions section in order to receive all information about what else you are installing.
We strongly recommend being especially careful when installing freeware and doing whatever is possible to stay away from browser hijackers and similar potentially unwanted programs. However, if you have already unknowingly installed a browser hijacker we suggest to delete Trovi.com from your PC. And here is why.
What does Trovi.com do?
First of all, the browser hijacker modifies your home page and changes your default search engine to Trovi.com without your permission. It may look like a legitimate search engine, but we assure you it is not. Once you start using Trovi.com search engine you will see that instead of your search results you are provided with ads and sponsored links. In general, the number of various advertisements such as banners, pop-ups and sponsored links will drastically increase. This happens because Trovi.com promotes various sites and makes profit by redirecting you to them. What is worse, not all of those pages may be safe. If you click on one of the links and it takes you to a corrupted website your computer may get infected by a malicious program. Trovi.com is not held responsible for the content of the pages it promotes therefore you can never be sure exactly what you are getting into by clicking on one of them.
Another aspect that Trovi.com is known for is collecting information. Like other browser hijackers, Trovi.com tracks your cookies and records information about your Internet activities. It collects the searches made by you, the pages visited and so on. It can even record your IP address. Although Trovi.com claims that your personal data such as user name and password as well as financial details like credit card number stays safe, you can never be sure. Some of the non-personal data received in such a way can be aimed at acquiring your personal details. Moreover, the non-personally identifiable information may also be sold to third parties.
As you can see, there is nothing beneficial about keeping Trovi.com on your PC. It is not in any way better than any of the official search engines such as Google, Bing or others. Trovi interrupts your browsing experience by providing you with advertisements that you never needed and altering your search results. It also collect your information to make those advertisements seem more useful to you. Once you click on them you generate traffic for that website and Trovi.com makes profit from that. As the developers of Trovi do not endorse the third party links they provide they are not responsible for any content that the pages may possess. Therefore you may see something offensive or infect your PC with malware. A legitimate search engine should not do any of the things mentioned above. Needless to say, it also should not come bundled with freeware. This method of distribution is only popular amongst potentially unwanted programs.
As it has already been mentioned, you should remove Trovi from your PC as it is certainly more likely to do you more harm than good. If you want to avoid being disturbed while surfing the web and losing your private data you should terminate Trovi.com as soon as you can. Keep reading to find out how.
